Icarus

Contributed by JoseyJ on Wednesday, 9th June 2010 @ 01:57:06 AM in AEST
Topic: mythology

Broken angel with blackened feathers
stunned by the beauty of the sky
deafened by the sound of your awe
you couldn't hear your father cry

"Fly straight down and never look up
Don't lose yourself in sights so grand
don't indulge in things forgotten,
just try to leap upon the sand,"

his wings cried the waxy tears
and he slowly fell apart there
arms bathed in sweat, eyes full of wonder
soaring higher into the air,

the heat stripped him of his flying power
left him nothing but human once more
he reached for the sun, but never got there
swiftly getting closer to the floor

his father watched in shock and terror
as his son dissappeared in to the ground
sickening silence overswept him
he refused to look or make a sound.

Stay away from things of beauty
lest you know just what to do
control yourself and you'll be happy
Don't lose yourself or we'll lose you

I like the way you've drawn the moral out of this tale at the end of this. Don't lose yourself or we'll lose you-ace!

I LOVED THE IDEA EXPRESSED THROUGH YOUR RHYTHMIC LINES ! THAT'S WHAT POETRY IS ALL ABOUT !
