Distance Makes the Heart

Distance makes the heart grow weaker
Bending low the tallest trees
Bringing the stronghearted to their knees
Fly me home for a second
Just to see you
Distance makes the heart spasm
Pumping love, squeezing out hatred
So great, want to slice in two distance
Strike it dead, ineffective, invisible
To reach through walls
If only with eyes
Anything
Distance makes the heart feel
A rainstorm on a flat plain
Care, appreciation, ineffable pain
Thunderclouds that scare me
If only you were here
To protect me in your blanket, a safety valve
Because my heart has a condition
It needs you too much
Distance does not make the heart grow fonder
It could never be fonder than it’s always been
And if it were to grow any more,
It would explode
And its remnants would span this distance
So you could hold a piece of me
Even there, so far
