DID YOUR MOTHER HAVE A CLOTHESLINE?

DID YOUR MOTHER HAVE A CLOTHESLINE?

Do you remember your Mother's clothesline, was divine!
wooden with wire lines, open area for sunshine.
religiously inclined with laws to follow strictly
wipe the wire down each and every time faithfully.

Similar to planting your garden, whites come first, row after row,
panties hid in the back, the color or size, n'er let anyone know!
like peas in a pod, intricately spaced, evenly and perfectly hung!
old wringing washing machine nearly dry, tightly wrung!

Clothesline day was always so much fun, dogs and cats run.........
family ritual, worshiping nature's earth, cloudless sky turbine
many times barefoot to feel the earth's touching grace.
clothesline's speak, neighbor's observe, your family n'er disgrace!

Socks must be carefully hung toe first, and heels aligned to same side
mother's method is always best, once collected organization applied
when folding, it's quick, no sorting, method saves time.
disliked my Mother's way, now I'm her "Partner In Crime"

Early in the week, early in the morning, Monday was always washday.
Wyoming weather didn't cooperate, snow-- still go-- no "Hanging Delay"
frozen stiff as boards, and known as "Freeze Dry" in her day
an advantage, no wrinkles, no ironing, her way best even today

"It all comes out in the wash" started with the line..........
it would announce "newborns", and illnesses like a gossip vine
beware if you were a bed wetter, extra sheets, we all knew!
new families on our block, their wash reveal, true, or taboo!

Thanking my friend Gary
for the funny email that
inspired me to write
this "revealing" poem.

Hi Connie,

Yes she certainly did have one. Funny how we
always chose to play football (soccer to you) in
the back garden on washday and 'accidentally'
leave ball prints on the whites!?

It was always someone else's fault though .... the
phantom perpetrator!

Great days - great poem!

Tommy

Dear lovingcritters,

Your poem is beyond doubt
A superior one with clout

Excellent description
With rhythmic action

A simple topic is chosen
But, it teaches a lesson

Really an unbelievable write
My mind it does greatly excite

Will you please keep it up?
Your deserve the gold cup

Thanks a lot my dear poet
You are truly great I now bet.

With best wishes, Thanking you, Yours truly,

M V VENKATARAMAN
