The Years.

In a small rural churchyard snug beneath a hill
With whisps of air that cling like silence
The years at last are standing still.
Close friends and total strangers together now they lay,
The sheep they graze with idle ease
And a valley breeze stirs the hedgerows to a sigh.
Joined together at last, at peace for eternity,
In meadows soft with summer's breath
The years at last have set them free.
But oh the years! so tender, loving, harsh and cruel,
If in anger the mountains one day split the sky,
Will the years too bring about their fall?
