Freedom On The Wing

I wish I was a bird, an eagle maybe
And I would swoop over the mountains
Enjoying the sensations I feel when I'm free.
Just to see the clouds flash by on the tip of my wings,
I'd embrace the moment and treasure my life
And all the joy that it brings.
I'd sit in the open and taste rain drops on my beak,
Wallow in the solitude, commune with my god
And feel my feathers silky and sleek.
And I'd perch in my eerie out of the mid day sun,
Watching the day drift by
Safe in the knowledge that I fear nothing and no one.
And as the twilight envelopes the fields I would watch the valley below,
See small creatures scurrying away,
Caught by the shadows cast by the sky's western glow.
And as a nonchalant moon claims its kingdom I'll perch on a gate,
Proud in the knowledge that I kill in order to live
And not out of jealousy, spite or hate.
