The Missing Piece

anguished

From this deep sleep I woke
And found, when I move I choke
Again and again I tried but broke.
With this anguish I must put up my oak.
What do I this day feel,
Everything has turned troublingly still.
Fear grips me like with a hand of steel.
Now my instinct warns of an impending peril.
Amidst this wide sea of wealth, something is still amiss.
What, I wonder, is the missing piece?
My heart wanders abroad like a merchant of Venice’s
Who, despite his wealth, with vigour seeks peace.
The trouble, I found, is my missing rib
Lest I find a soul mate mayn’t be complete.
