Grieving in Indiana

Telephones ring in the background
Whisperers let bad news into the house
Creeping sullen and bitter into every corner
Who is weeping? Is it his mother?
Somebody go to her and dry her tears
She must be strong in the face of death
Photographs adorn the tables
Wishing him back to life
But there is no breath in him anymore
Oh to kiss his young cheek again
Hear his laughter overcome the weeping
It was not bravery but foolhardy youth
That dug his all too early grave
We are not through with this
We are just begun to feel the pain of grieving in Indiana
