City in Flames

Topic: InspirationalPoems

I lookout into the city and what do I see
Pain,suffering, and misery
The situation continues to get worse
People living to die so what is it all worth
Mother's struggling to feed their children
Praying for the day their struggle will end
But until then
They must continue to contend
With this cruel reality called life
Where the righteous are struck down for doing what's right
Tears flow from my eyes as I watch the children weep
Not knowing if they'll live to see next week
Our city is in flames
A place where nothing seems to change
The only way out is through fortune or fame
So I ask what do you gain
From living in a place where death lurks every corner
Where making it to 16 not for sure
I try to look away but I can't stop looking
At the place I call home which sees me as nothing
Another statistic a burden to society
Money is a great necessity
But above all knowledge is key
So as for me
I want to inspire change
Rescue the fallen from the city in flames
