A YOUNG CHOCTAW MAIDEN
WAITS IN HER TEEPEE
TODAY SHE IS TO WED
A GREAT INDIAN CHIEF.
HER DRESS IS THE FINEST
TRIMED IN BEADS OF ALL COLOR
TIED AROUND HER SMALL WAISTE
A BELT OF FINE LEATHER
SHE MADE THE WEDDING CLOTHES
WITH SUCH GREAT PRIDE
WAITING FOR THE DAY
WHEN SHE WOULD BE HIS BRIDE.
THE DRUMS BEAT LOUDLY
AS THE SAD CHOCTAWS HEAR
THE MESSAGE IT SENDS
ACROSS THE VAST PRAIRIE.
NOW HER HEART IS BROKEN
AS WORD SHE RECEIVES
THAT DEATH HAS TAKEN
HER GREAT INDIAN CHIEF
ALONE, SHE LEAVES HER HOME
TO WANDER ACROSS THE LAND
WITHOUT HER PRECIOUS LOVE
CHIEF OF THE CHOCTAW BAND.
