Go higher,my children shouted with glee,
Holding tight to the rope hanging from a tree,
Tied around an old black tire that made the swing,
Our laughter could be heard and did bring,
Others to our yard so each had a chance,
To swing on this old tire while others danced
With anticipation for just a few rides,
As I pushed them higher my heart filled with pride,
This swing was mine from a time in the past,
Made just for me,he promised it would last,
At certain times as the tree taller grew,
We lengthened the rope every year or two,
Now the old swing stood as a symbol,
Of a childhood that only I could remember,
When my father just before he died,
Made a swing with a rope, tire and pride,
Go higher they shouted so I pushed even more,
With tears slowly gathering as they have done many times before.
