The Trovador

High above the staggering sky
With the weight of the world gripped deep within its talons
Are wings that soar far beyond
The disregarded corpses and bones of life’s actors
And claims the sky and earth as its domain
For you are a predator in a world of prey
Who hunts out the phonies, fakes, liars, and thieves
And swallows them down into the pit of truth
Where destiny waits like a slumbering beauty
To be kissed awake by the lips of fate
Pleasure is the woes of forgotten pasts
While pain is the realization of the present
That what was doesn’t always translate into what is
And that the place you see yourself going doesn’t always exist
Alone on that mountain top where you thought you belonged
Only to find yourself surrounded by yourself
Knowing that nothing in life truly matters
For things matter most when they cease to matter at all
Despite this grim outlook, this foreboding reality
You carry on in a world not always in tune
Singing a song corrupted by bad timing, lost morals
And ears muted by the tragedy of today’s modern tendencies
For love is distance; the great divider
While heartache is time; always there even when it’s gone
Romancing honesty can leave you paralyzed
Unaccompanied with knowing, empty inside
You have tasted the fruit, and swallowed it full
But it lingers on your tongue and burns the part of you
That your years of searching cannot hide
For you are the towering fire that keeps others warm
The sun while the world around you is the darkness of space
Blinding with the light that you omit
Radiating, softly playing a tune of longing falling blue
A boxer, a lover, truth seeker….the Trovador
