Medieval War

Contributed by shanat on Sunday, 9th May 2010 @ 03:03:17 AM in AEST
Topic: war

A scout delivers the dreadful news
an army seen to the north but nobody knows whose
a young princess just been made a queen
now plunged into chaos and a war she'd never dream

the battle was short only few survive
my sister taken, exhausted but alive
the terror of foreign man exposed our weakness
my sister with no army young and keepless

fled into exile nor able nor willing
how can they justify unjustified killing
your atrocity, your crime will not travel far
history will define who we really are

clear the land of infecting peasants
restore the rightful queen and her pheasants
snipers positioned on the hill
crossbows cocked ready for the kill
soldiers poised tight in ranks
knights on horses cover their flanks
shields tighten ready to barge
swords drawn ready to charge
the general rides, OUR COUNTRY YOURS TO DEFEND
all raise their pride, OURS UNTIL THE END.
the bugle sounds the charge is on.

we charge, 3000 strong
spears perfect silver straight and long
they have to pay, they must be made to pay
they won't live to fight another day
blood hacking through the skies
pumping adrenalin through my eyes
lost my head for a time
the drummer boy was only 9
soldiers retreat, bowman fled
trebuchet buckled........the king is dead.

the women stand together
each sad and cried
as they remember the men
who bravely fought and died
each man an honored grave
for their sacrifice
their life they gave
we fought for not riches nor glory
but for our brothers and freedom
for that alone is a story
no one gives up.
