Nothing

There is always something
May it be as small as a blade of grass
or as big as the ocean blue.
It's all the same for they are there.
People pray for sight if blind.
They wish to hear if deaf,
feel what they see,
smell what they eat.
There is a reason why people fear
losing all their senses,
because without them there is just
Nothing.
Everyone has hopes and beliefs.
From the impossible, eternal peace
to the very possible, end of the world.
Either way, they all originate from something.
People fear the word death.
They wish to never die,
live forever due to the subconscious thought
that maybe when you die, you die.
The hidden fear of death
is really the true fear of
Nothing.

Great poem. It makes the reader do a lot of thinking. Indeed this single word does capture a great deal of human fears about living an entire life and being reduced to "nothing".
