Eldridge and Hoopes Family Speak About Body Found in Ammon

Stephanie Eldridge

Amber Hoopes

Reporter: Johnny Archer

Family members of Stephanie Eldridge and Amber Hoopes spoke exclusively to Channel 6 Monday night about the body found in Ammon.

Investigators say the body may be one of the two girls who have been missing from Idaho Falls for several years.

The female body found in the hills of Ammon Friday may be the next step to some sort of closure for one of the families.

Amber Hoopes has been missing for more than 8 years and Stephanie Eldridge has been missing since 2007.

"You know, it's tough," said Deb Rowbury, Stephanie Eldridge's aunt. "It's like opening an old wound. But it's also helping because somebody out there, if not Stephanie, it might be Amber Hoopes or somebody else that's missing."

Family members of Stephanie Eldridge say the past few days have been rough.

Investigators are saying it is a good possibility the body found might be Stephanie or Amber. An autopsy of the body is currently in progress at the state lab in Boise.

Family members of Amber Hoopes say they expect to hear what the DNA results will be within a matter of days. But regardless of the results, Amber's family knows she is safe.

"We've come to grips with it," said Noris Burgener, Amber Hoopes' grandfather. "We have for 8 1/2 years. And so, we're okay with it. We know where she's at. We know she's with our Heavenly Father."

Stephanie's family is preparing for the candle vigil they hold each year in August to commemorate the missing in the eastern Idaho area.

Possibly for one of these families, their family member will no longer be missing.

~And then there is this~
more wounds laid wide open
soft cries in the dark
mixing in with winter rains.

~And then there is this
more unanswered questions
years of waiting, hearts drawn tight on the strings.

~And then there is this~
senseless act of murder
bones to bury, left along a hunting trail.

~And then there is this
a beautiful young women
filled with life, now she is gone, WHY?

~And now there is this~
one family with some closure
another family still with no answers
just quit acceptance.........

~And now there is this~
a murderer, cold and evil
still walks the streets each night~

My heart is breaking........ for lots of reasons tonight

UPDATE: The remains have been identified as Stephanie Eldridges, not Ambers...........
it was ruled a homicide, so my thoughts are with the Eldridges right now.......... as well as my family members in Idaho with another open wound...........

Oh Celle, I just so sorry to hear this.
There are so many very evil people out there
Seems it isn't safe for any of us anymore.
How tragic, Celle. and to think the murderer still walks the streets.
Horrible indeed!
Warm love,
consue

Michelle, As a parent of a beautiful and caring daughter, I cant even fathom the pain the parents have gone through during this time of not knowing. As always, your poetry seems to bring out the stark reality of this sad situation. God Bless, david

Hi Michelle,

Another story to add to the many that often make
me ashamed of my gender.

Stay strong.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. you know that you and your family are always in my prayers. I hope that the answers that your family seeks finally come and that they are those of joy and not that of sadness. just remember that I am always here for you if you need me.

hugs
Rich
