Silence Grows

The Banshee beats the death drum for long decaying day
That startles sleeping nightfall to burst on us once more
And, laughing with each other, we see our friends off at the door
Who disappear in the darkness, and we are alone again.
The echo of the wind calls through the window panes.
My whole life in this moment, this single moment
That I lay here enwound in my lovers arms.
I wish to whisper that I love her, the old familiar sound,
Yet my heart lays mute upon my tongue;
The eloquent virgin silence to beautiful to breach.
So as our silence drifts upon the wind
And I lay here with my old familiar friend
Our hearts beat the moments that mighty love has lent
While I await the birth of the new day.
