The Flower

Contributed by hanasuru on Wednesday, 5th May 2010 @ 10:08:56 AM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

On some melodious morning when flowers rose to dance
my seed grew from the waters that'd fallen there by chance

i struggled in the darkness and climbed an endless height
where other plants had fallen then broke into the light

i tasted life with other plants among the endless grass
but they were not the same as me so time could only pass

the dew would gather on me and stretch up toward the sun
i push them even higher, through warmth their freedom won

but i cant taste this freedom, my life is in the earth
so i will make the best of it and give my presence worth

I'll spread my sheets of purple and aid the lonesome bee
who'll leave me like the dew drops and bumble to his tree

ill give my cherished petals, to make your potpourri
accompany your bosom, on nights with the marquis

so much the love I've given, yet nothing is returned
my face will surely wither, for love is what I've yearned

but on a rainy afternoon when water weighed me down
my root it met another, who was also in the ground

i grew to face this other and find out what or who
was touching on my lifeline, then she was in my view

behold she was a flower, the purest kind of white
she understood the stigma that we both had to fight

we grew together happily and danced among the grass
for now we knew why flowers danced and wanted life to last

but then the unexpected came and pulled us from the ground
they put us in their garden with flowers all around

we watched them all get taken, we knew our time would come
but we stayed strong together, our love would not succumb

then after all our waiting, it came to that one day
i cursed i was a flower and wished that i could say

"if you put us in the garden please let our love stay fair
don't pluck us for your table or wear us your hair

our scent it should be plenty, to please you when you pass
nearby and see our beauty, a beauty that should last

so please don't steal my flower, to use her for the night
please take me in her stead, so she can see the light

of some melodious morning when flowers rise to dance
and with my seed together begin a new romance"

I enjoyed this very much. It's such a beautiful poem. The rhythm is perfect, it made me want to read on and on. A new perspective on a flower's true value.I lke the plea at the end. Will we ever pick a flower again for a vase...? Excellent!
