Moonlight
What do you see in the mists of twilight?
When the autumn moon strives to break through the clouds;
To penetrate the murk and bring light to the landscape below?
Sinister shadows twist and turn menacingly,
Vagaries of shape and form hidden and threatening.
You pause, noticing the crispness of the grass under foot
As the early frost casts its iciness upon the surface.
The noise of your footsteps is almost deafening
Compared with the eerie silence of ever approaching blackness.
Almost breathtakingly a shaft of moonlight breaks through the gloom,
Creating a single spotlight on a stage of natural forest floor.
The crystals of frost sparkle like diamonds wherever the light strikes
And you are transported by the beauty of it all.
More and more spotlights appear driving away the mist,
And the forest is revealed in all its moonlight splendour,
Unable to be recreated by artist or camera but only by human perception.
The full moon has driven the denizens of darkness away and replaced them,
Replaced them with natural beauty, wondrous security, sanctuary.

I daresay the moonlight of hope has broken through your icy gloom. Stick to doom and gloom I think not! What use is telling of the light if you have never known intimately the dark? "Success is counted sweetest..." |
