the shadow of love

Contributed by elle on Friday, 23rd April 2010 @ 11:20:12 PM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

black wings brush my skin as you tuck me under. . .

anticipation is stretched across sinew, over bone
& I am at once, both real & sublime in your seizure.

I want awkardly. . .

& dive cautiously into this catalyst,
because what offering. . .
what offering does not burn like a ghost in the heat of desire.

my heart is a cold box with a stone lock & a brittle key,
waiting. . .

waiting. . . on betrayal's promise,
that antidote for love, a bitter & replete cordial, that arrives like a yellowing thorn,
whispering. . .
"take me into you so that I might fester"
"take me in like a knife"
"take me in, for you are surely torn in your bewilderment, & I can be no worse."
"no worse for the measure"

yet I demand, like a newly washed prayer,
like a staving off
. . . a fortune hunter's kiss
. . . a shooting star
like a stone blind cropper, examining the field. . .

I want. . .

a love that wears itself like a treasured belonging,
a song, like a salve, that calls out from the kitchen, come into my rift,
a fist that does not pound it's guilty proof through to the heart,
a coupling that does not resurrect dirt.

I need. . .

the danger of that sudden gift. . .
that wide-eyed, all in, comfort of filling yourself & empting yourself,
sacredly into the soft, soft understanding
of time & breath & silken throes. . .
a fraction of the gentle confession, that creature of your laugh
flowing tenderly

your spell is a kindness. . . is a lacking, wished away. . .
is a closure for a dead heart, whose once echoing beat lay empty & obsolete. . .

& I am not afraid. . .

A well written piece of poetry you have shared. Splendid imagery and chosen words to make this a wonderful read.

elle, this is exceptional. There is a poetic wealth inside
this that covers with splendid rapture. It is the kind of
poetry that gently reduces the reader to sighs and
envy-- a beautiful blend of wonder, allure and romance.

I honestly have no words. This swept me away into a dark, breathing softness that I have known once before. Such beauty. And that last line... The ultimate acceptance. There is nothing more precious. What beauty...

In awe, and content in this silence,

~S.
(who appears to have had some words after all.)
