Another Day goes By ......

Contributed by Valerie_Pearson on Sunday, 13th April 2003 @ 03:45:00 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

Green moss crawls among the old oak,
songbirds sing a laughing dance,
spring approaches time again,
the winds crisp air caresses the day with magic,
broken branches show signs of the long cold winter,
the black charred road faults all potholes,
they show pictures on the television screen of cherry bloosoms in bloom,
Washington seems like a whispered dreamland,
the phone rings in my home and a soft voice speaks to me,
I wish I could hold her, but she's miles away, fighting war,
she's the second to the youngest,
one of the twins which were born pre-mature,
she speaks of things we used to do,
while bombs are heard in the background,
dark dust and sirens scatter the land in which she calls,
I close my eyes and I can see the same sights as she,
fallen comrades, lost children,
age really doesn't matter,
when it comes to war,
who will be there, when bugles blow,
and the trumpet makes another journey,
to close the end of ones' life,
I see caskets draped with flags of color,
rain weeping tears on fathers and mothers,
men and woman, in a line, holding their hands out for food,
waiting for water to quench their thirst,
some drifters search the steel carcass of vacant blown buildings,
my eyes open and I try to look on while listening to her voice,
she's so close but I can't hold her,
she's miles away in a foriegn land,
dressed in armor, a soldier on guard,
just then I hear a car on the black charred roadway, hit another pothole,
life is also that way,
bumps wherever we turn,
passages unknown,
sometimes it really makes you feel,
and when she said good-by on the phone,
I told her it wasn't good-by, I'd see her later,
and her voice faded away, until next time,
what crosses my mind, is all she gives to others,
and no-body understands the pain I know she feels,
the distance seems so far,
yet I feel her when my eyes close,
I hear the emptiness in those she has touched,
another night goes by,
then another day,
will we ever have peace in this world,
sometimes I want serenity to take over,
and white doves to fly past,
and the true meaning of life to be appreciated,
no more evil, no more suffering,
only peace, and brotherhood,
and all to Love!

Oh, Valerie, this really touched me. I think you have to have a gut-wrenching experience like this to have such profound words and feelings.
I have a grandaughter in basic training now. I wonder what lies ahead for her. I wish that I could write a beautifully as this, but I don't want any of that pain! Love to you and your daughter. Friend Bizzy

Val,Peace does not just come..........it has to be won! Forged in the fire of conflict and constantly tempered every day on the anvil of community.
In my poem "Terrorism for it's own sake" I try to show the price of peace is far beyond the "pocket" of the selfish people many have become today.
