Cocoon

Contributed by Breezy on Monday, 19th April 2010 @ 06:31:54 PM in AEST
Topic: NaturePoetry

The sun was high and the air was ripe
With nature痴 sweet perfume
So I gathered up a walk,
Where the flowers were in bloom

And as I ambled through the maze
Of lilies and milkweed
I chanced to find a woolly bear
Lightly perched upon a reed

I asked him then, why he meant
To sit upon that reed
He answered thus, because you see
I知 preparing to be freed

You see that pond down yonder there
With lilies littered about?
I wish to join their quiet life
I知 tired and so worn out

By day I知 dodging birds and mice
By night the bats and moles
I致e not the strength to continue on
Nor outrun deadly patrols

You poor dear thing, I cooed to him
Your renewal will occur
And then you値l soar far out of reach
With a beauty that will endure

So, as I watched in wondered awe,
A chrysalis, he formed
A perfect place of plan and task
Where destiny was born

Satisfied, I further moved
Where the flowers were in bloom
And left him where he felt secure
Wrapped safe in his cocoon

Hi,

An excellent piece of poetry. Chimeric in its
context but so effortlessly crafted as to be almost
real.

Uplifting!

AND............. to further your talent even higher on the list..........you speak for the Critters, and not even a lisp! Your empathy is marvelous, your words for them a delight! The first poem I ever wrote was about a grasshopper, that shed his skin, and then took to flight!
I love poets who can feel and crawl in caterpillar's shoes.........you are so amazing, are you sure you're not a muse?
Warm love,
consue

"I wish to join their quiet life
I知 tired and so worn out"

That sums up the underlying theme of the poem. A need to escape, a need to transcend, a need to get away from the mundane, victimizing life. The message was artfully and metaphorically captured using the natural world. Well done.
