Soldier’s Last Tears.
On that gala night, a soldier in uniform,
sullenly watched his comrades drank and danced
to a joyous tune of victory, shouting and cheering,
for they were flying back home.
A squall of emotions erupted in his heart;
dark shadow of qualms fogged his
notions, in a state of bemusement
he dialed home.
Ma, He whimpered, “I’m comin’ home”
sound of cheerful sobbing he heard,
commotion of celebration echoed,
“I can’t wait to see you my son” pa’ boomed.
soldier whispered, “I’m brinin’ along a friend
of mine too pa” “O of course son” was pa’ at
the other side. But, said the son, “he lost a hand
and a leg in the battlefield” bang came the reply”
you come lone my son; there are others to take
care of him” dead goes the conversation.
The next morning came in an officer,
with the news “your son is no more…
shot himself for reason we know not,
He awaits motionless in a mortuary
for you to acknowledge.”
Mom, closed her eyes and nods to,
with sorrowful acceptance, His last note,
which she couldn’t read through her misty
tearful-eyes, hand’s over to Pa’ and he read.
Pa said the note; “It’s me that limbless friend,
whom you discarded; so will the others.
“I rather perish in darkness then pretend to live in
a loveless bigoted-world; O Pa…, you always said, love is unconditional…”

Dear friends, be it a brave soldier, a tender helpless-child from the street corner, or it may be our own child, they all possess a very fragile and tender heart. never let them feel discarded, abandoned or rejected; be non-bias, loving and compassionate.

Well, this was amazingly sad! But what a beautiful and poignant message!!
Gripping to the last, Franco and incredible in its telling. Your authors note is
filled with a kind of devotion that I wish more could embrace. Wonderfully written.
The sketch is such a nice touch! Beautifully done.

Benedetto,
The sadness of this poem makes us painfully aware of the effects of our words on another. The devastation of the words of the father was the revelation that his father's love had conditions. Your words reminds us this Society we live is has a mind set of throwing away that which is not perfect. The oxymoron of this mindset is none of us are perfect...
In the face of the soldier you drew are the words of your poem.
Exceptionally well done and the actions and words pierces the heart |
