The Orb

Topic: LovePoetry

The Orb

The fleshy orb in fluid rotates,
Entices, admonishes, laughs and berates.
Hard to imagine that it is not independent
Of its master, the brain, the dutiful parent.

A mirror of the soul, a well of dreams,
Within its depth the hopes and schemes
Of love and desire, fear and sadness’
Hate, jealousy, bereavement and gladness.

I stare and am hooked, a fish on the line,
Destined like herring to be pickled in brine.
Fighting the lure I writhe but am caught.
Am I ecstatic, enthralled or am I distraught?

Such is the quandary, the power of that eye
Aquamarine blue that no-one can defy.
Landed and floundering, stuck in the net,
Unlike the fish I am happy not upset.

Held and transfixed I give up my soul
To the colour, the pupil, the iris and whole
Depth of the object which sucks me inside
To the core of her being with nowhere to hide.

I've never seen a fishing metaphor used so perfectly. I also like your gentle pooling of verbs and nouns here and there, but beware it might get a little clunky. But I like it!

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
