Imprint Of Soulmates

Contributed by JRLatin77 on Thursday, 15th April 2010 @ 03:48:11 AM in AEST
Topic: LoveRemembered

One of my most treasured memories was as a young man sitting on the sandy beach in Coney Island. I was watching, and listening to the waves pushing onto the shore, with the company of only my thoughts and comforting breeze of that summer. From the corner of my eyes I happen to notice an elderly couple walking along the edge of the beach, bare footed, pants rolled up to their knees so not to get them wet. They held hands while supporting each other’s steps along the ascending edges of the waters. So old and frail I thought to myself. It even crossed my mind to go help them get to where they were going. But it was obvious they had no need for my help. They were doing what they set off to do, share that walk with each other. As they neared closer to where I sat I could see the way she looked at him, smiling as if he was her knight in shining armor. Both seemed to be on some pleasant quest while avoiding the broken seashells along the beach. How insensitive it would be of me to intrude in their moment of enjoyment together.

The old woman suddenly gasped, and in a mesmerized way stood looking towards the ocean’s horizon. I heard her say “Oooh! Look honey!” as they both stared out at the sun setting peacefully into the ocean. I myself thought it was a beautiful sunset, along with the sounds of the waves and the seagulls flying over head. But what captured me the most in that moment was how patient and loving the old couple stood and held each other as they enjoyed what most people take for granted, the beauty of a sunset. Before the sun took it’s last breath of the day I watched the old couple turn to each other as they kissed, then smiled, and continued their walk along the beach. This may not mean anything to anyone, but to me even though I may never see this couple again, they forever left an imprint in my heart of Soulmates in love.

One of the most beautiful things in this world is if love survives! I was very lucky to look after a couple like this and I will never forget it, thankyou for reminding me of the real beauty of this world

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
