An empty palette

I paint without a coloured mind,
Searching for vision I cannot find.
Resorting to my soul for colour,
But its pallate is even duller.
A painter's challenge, I must comply,
To whose will I am commisioned by
Obeying this Voice that beckons me,
I try to paint what I can't I see,
And choose the shade that best belongs,
To mask the stains of all my wrongs.
But on my canvas lay clashing colours,
That bleeds under the gaze of others.
Angered by the conflicting mess,
I tire and put the brush to rest.

A beautiful metaphor for writing, I daresay? Beautifully put, I especially liked the lines:
"And choose the shade that best belongs,
To mask the stains of all my wrongs.
But on my canvas lay clashing colours,
That bleeds under the gaze of others."
I love the strong imagery, very refreshing. |
