Asylum

Asylum

Darkness is my friend, it holds me.
It has a warm embrace and holds me completely.
No arms could possibly achieve that totality
Of touch where no separation can be found.
It does not talk or cause a distraction
Indeed there is never any need for interaction.
Nothing to touch, nothing to see
No high pitched talking or whining sound.
Just blackness here in my solitary tomb
As welcome to me as my mother’s womb.
Here I can talk and no-one disagrees
My decisions are final and right, justifiable.
But soon I know the dark will become light
And I will, as before put up such a fight.
I hear him now, the man with the key.
He’s coming right now, he’s coming for me.

Fantastic portrayal of madness, how it seems almost reasonable to feel comfort in what you think you shouldn't. Darkness grows on you. Good job.

Al, this is extraordinary. There is such a comfort in darkness where no one awaits answers for anything (even questions not asked) -- A reasonable justification for embracing it. You've written this with a perfect blend of creative thought and emotion. Well done! Quite relatable.

This was so much fun to read because there is so much insanity here its difficult not to like. You can feel isolation and cold walls in your imagery and it quite gripping. Well done my friend.

take care

Ok, you know what? I COMPLETELY get
this. I more than resemble this poem, I
am this poem. I was having this talk with
a long-time friend that had just gotten
back in touch with me after a 20 yr gap,
and I was venting to him, because my room
mate can't understand that there are times
that I NEED to surround myself with
darkness sometimes. That I actually revel
in it. She thinks that makes me a sociopath,
but I think that if I didn't wallow in the
dark, that it WOULD make me crazy. And
would you believe that HE said the same thing
and that his wife didn't understand it?
Suffice it to say, that you're not alone.

Anyways, this was a very personal piece
for me to read, and I would imagine, for
you to write, so I thank you for sharing it
with us all and I commend you for the
impressive way you've summed up the dark.

Be well,
~Loende
