A Better Start
I stare at the page, a blank canvas upon which to write.
Will the words come this time I can not tell?
There is so much to express from this head full of pain
But is it right to share it time and again.
It would be nice, just once to think positive thoughts
And fill this sheet with some joyous creation.
But the world has become dark full of hate and mistrust
Where people slay people with an abhorrent lust.
Religion, economy, arms of mass destruction,
Man has an unhealthy imagination to initiate conflict.
Whatever happened to love and peace on Earth?
Was it lost to us all on the day of our birth?
If we read more and listened less perhaps it would change.
But sadly the media has invaded our brains.
I remember a time when a poem could fill me with joy
But like everyone else I’m no longer a boy.
Newspapers, television and even video games
Spew their filth and their lies or distorted truth.
No media baron is happier than a major disaster
Descending upon us, more pain and not laughter.
We have a job to do to change this you and I.
To bring back the visions that we all used to see.
For all black, white, brown, Christian, Muslim or Jew
We have to start with a page, all blank and brand new.

Beautiful, especially that last line. It's easy to dwell on what has gone so horribly wrong (because plenty has), but we have a new page to start on and you express the desire to see more optimistic things. To give up hope is to let the darkness win and forfeit our blank pages, to forget our language and descend into darkness. Great write. |

A beautiful thought, Al. But in reality, people are doomed. That is not a loss of hope, just a realization that it is human nature to destroy ourselves. As long as the greed for wealth and power lives, we will never be free. ::sigh:: But this has beauty in it and it is filled with so much optimistic belief, one tends to get lost in the dream that one day, Utopia shall be ours. ^_^
Very provocative write. Wonderfully done.
