Mirror, Mirror…You are the Reason for it All

Mirror, Mirror…You are the Reason for it All

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall,
Who’s the prettiest of them all?

“Well, not you, my dear,
For you see, the scars on your arm,
They aren’t attractive at all.
The scars of your mind,
Well, they turn everyone away.
Your bruised and broken heart,
Well, unwanted they are.
My dear, this mirror on the wall must confess,
You are the ugliest of them all.”

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall,
Who’s the smartest of them all?

“Not you my dear,
To draw one’s own blood,
Requires lack of intelligence.
To harm yourself is not smart at all.
To make yourself them ugliest of the all,
By all the scars,
No, my dear,
You are the dumbest of them all.”

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall,
I have to say I think you’re wrong.
I find my scars to be,
Oh, so pretty.
They make me, me.
My bruised and broken heart,
Adds to my haunting beauty.
I’m the prettiest piece of art,
That slowly falls apart.
As for my intelligence,
I am oh, so smart,
Self-harm,
Leaves these scars,
But temporarily relieves my heart.
It makes my mind icy clear,
With each slash across my skin,
I shed only a few tears,
Don’t worry I know it’s a sin.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall,
Who’s the most wanted of them all?

“Not you my dear,
I find you weird,
With those scars,
All along your arm,
Caused by self-harm.
With your dark, black clothes,
Your unnatural hair,
Your loud annoying music,
No my dear, not you,
I don’t care about your heart,
How it’s been bruised and torn apart,
Just leave my sight,
Go away.
No, my dear,
I must say,
You’re the most unwanted of them all.”

Father, Father across from me,
I agree with you there.
You find me ugly, stupid, and unwanted,
All because of my scars, and broken heart.
Well, my dear, now I’m your Mirror.
I will answer just as truthfully as you,
So ask a question,
I know you want to,
But can you take the truth?
Ask away, you do.

“Mirror, Mirror on the Wall,
What is the reason for it all?”

That question is so simply answered,
But the answer nearly impossible to say,
So for a minute I sit and sway,
To the silent tears that roll down my face.
I grab the blade,
The icy clearness,
I embrace.

“Mirror, Mirror did you hear me?”

I answer with a tear,
Knowing that he won’t really care,
“Well, You, my dear are the reason for it all.”

Such a sad, yet powerful, poem. :(
Very cleverly written, I must say.
I've had my own struggles with self harm, it can be tough. Hang in there though.
Hope I get to see more of your work.
Love,
T_U

Wow--I can not believe my poem inspired this!
It's so good and sad, I love it!
