Salvation
Where does the darkness end or begin?
Who cares when you’re there, within?
The dank claustrophobic constriction of Hell
Drags the air from your lungs, deconstructs your spirit.
Self-esteem transforms to self-destruction without limit.
Depression is the eternal nemesis, the insidious assassin.
How does one fight what one cannot see?
Is there a desire to be truly free?
The palpability of your constraints is a shackle on your soul.
Curled up on the floor like a child in the womb,
You long for corporeal or non-corporeal release from the tomb.
Depression, like the Devil does not like to let one free.
There are five stages of heartache to bear for relief
And for this one needs help, support and belief
A man who faces a hundred foes without friends
Is a fool who will fall and will never ascend.
He will suffer, struggle, buckle and bend.
Refuse the hands from the light to escape from the grief.
The hermit, the hero, the solitary defender
Can wait and wait but is just a pretender.
What hope has he who refuses assistance?
A brave man lets go his fear and cries
His tears of pain yet tries and relies
On memories of his former life which he can remember.
With compassion they gently take the broken man
Who acquiesces calmly as now he can.
The truth is acknowledged and help is accepted.
Darkness has faded and been replaced with light
Which ever brightens along with his fight,
Together, not one, they follow the plan.
It is all so clear to him now, this individual.
Life is not concrete but abstract, intangible.
The path we follow is never straight, predestined,
But liable to change as so should we be.
Prepared for pitfalls, loss and misery
We have to remain sanguine, positive and hopeful.

Salvation indeed, and the truth shall set you free!
It is true, depression is such an awful, long and lonely path when one cannot find
the courage nor strength to ask for help, but once you realise you are not alone, what an
incredible sense of relief and "salvation" it brings, for clearer thought, and positive mind.
An extremely sentimental write for me. Excellently worded, this will mean so much to very many Alistair x

Resolve brings about an absolution that holds us during times we might find ourselves weak. And when we lose our way, isn't it wonderful to know there ARE people who do not judge, do not place conditions on their support and always try to understand? Accepting that we are in need is a huge accomplishment, and one of the most difficult things to admit. I know, from experience, that denial is a magnificent crutch. You've penned the conflict within the human soul exceptionally well. This is absolutely bubbling over with raw emotion and a commitment to sincerity. I am impressed with many things I found in here, not the least of which is your bravery. Your fortitude is encouraging to those who may be under the influence of a much lesser strength. Thank you for sharing this. Be well.

excellent expression of feelings and vivid depiction of this condition, leaving the reader with a positive note at the end; but must we not all try to remain sanguine, positive and hopeful? alas, as writers are we not also more insightful into the heart, soul and mind moreso than the average human? given this gift of pen vs. sword are we not able to help others in various situations such as this.... expressing from our depths what all through time another might understand, where you poet have created from pain: beauty,
hugs n' love nessa |
