Down in the Pond

Down in the pond….

Spring’s the season of which I’m most fond
It’s the best time of year down here in the pond -
When the water turns green with lush wavy shoots
And we go a’huntin’ among leaves and roots
For juicy slugs and slimy snails
And tasty worms with wriggly tails...

When the sun shines warm in the sky above
A young frog’s thoughts, they turn to love.
It’s such a delight on a moonlit night
To sit on a stone and take in the sight
Of long-legged beauties on their lily pads.
‘Come up and see us sometime, lads!’

Splish splash we go! And hoppity hop,
Jumpity jump and boppity bop,
Croakin’ all night to the jitterbug jive
Rockin’ an’ rollin’ right through until five
Groovin’ it with our amphibian ‘blondes’.
It’s where it’s all at – down here in the pond.
