Barefoot
Rubber sole, concrete floor
Ste, step, step
Don’t look around,
just cross through the door
Rubber sole, concrete floor
Step, step, step
Why even talk,
There’s no point, no more
Every step forward is more rubber on the concrete
And I have come to believe that is why
When, in the air, there is a correct amount of heat
We walk barefoot to avoid sweat and sigh
Ah, how painful it would be,
If even in summer temperature,
Forced to wear shoes were thee,
of a thick leather manufacture.
Granted, feet stink,
But so does never meeting someone
Who, against society’s whims,
Decides to conduct himself and act, not alike everyone
Ah, how dull it would be, truly a bummer,
if people’s personalities were too personal to be personified in public.
Seeing a surge of fiery lava in the cold night sea
Or a drop of water in the burning desert at midday
Makes me feel like maybe, heaven is not so far away
For when we forefeet our right to walk barefoot in the summer,
to sing in the shower and enjoy music where others hear noise metallic,
then, we cease to matter.
