The Final Moment.

Contributed by canyouhearme on Tuesday, 30th March 2010 @ 06:57:14 PM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

Sometimes the memories
Of the day you left this earth
haunt me in my slumber,
That’s always where they lurk.

With a broken heart, I remember
Every moment, to your last.
I tired my best to hold on close,
Every minute, until you passed.

Mom asked us, how involved,
Each of us wanted to be.
I said right by grandma’s side,
Until the end, is where I’ll be.

I watched your chest rise and fall,
Each, with a shorter stretch of time.
I looked up with great concern.
Our faces seemed to mime.

Please forgive me for my tears,
As I struggled to be strong.
But in the moments of your last breath,
Everything felt so hard and wrong.

We all stood in silence,
As with grace, you slipped away.
I mustered up composure,
As I tried to figure out what to say.

My mom, she did not shed a tear,
As she knew you were no longer in pain.
My uncles got on their phones,
To tell friends of the angel God’s would gain.

I stayed close to grandma,
Staring out the window, into the night.
That’s when I saw a figure,
Fly past me, into the night.

Grandpa came to get her.
That, I know for sure.
Grandma waited 11 years to rejoin him,
Grandpa’s love was the only cure.

Wow, made me cry. I know the feelings you expressed and you expressed them so well.
It is not easy losingthose we love but they are with the ones they loved who went before.
Well done.

I have no words to describe the beauty and elegance with which you paid tribute to your grandmother's last moments. There is a sadness that is comforted in every line. Truly exquisite. That last stanza really choked me up. So gorgeously written. Well done!
