LOST
~***~***~
You haunt me in my dreams, dark and beautiful,
where the cares that have made us are silent,
and do not intrude or strip us bare.
Lost in the suspended breathlessness,
I can see the glory of it all.
Were there words to speak of it, to record it,
every touch, every caress, would I dare to write it?
Would anyone believe that I have more, not less?
Because that’s the very definition
of what I wrap around me
One look, one drawn out moment of contentment and comfort,
where there is no beginning or end, no separation,
and nothing between us save the truth,
this is where I sleep, lost in you,
lost to what we’ve made.
So if you wake me, my beloved, be gentle and sure.
Trace my shape with loving hands,
Spilling your warmth across my skin,
until I can meet your eyes,
and our hearts beat as one.
Hold me in the shelter of your strong arms, against your side
while Morpheus touches our brows and sends us to slumber.
Reach out in the night, just to find me near you,
that we may have in sleep, that which is lost to the dawn.
Breathe, beloved, as I breathe,
lost in the glory of it all

oh, dear loende. This is so softly beautiful. (I hate sounding like a broken record, but truly, I've run out of adjectives). There is some magnificent but quiet power about the repetition of the last line in verse one, at the end. It sits quietly in wait while diverting passion moves the reader to sighs and then brings the them back full circle. There is much about this piece that reflects the strength and depth of love. And it is so wonderfully crafted that the flow feels as easy as a misty rain. It stirred many emotions in my own heart, dear poet. Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece.

I hate to admit it, but this made me think of my last wife. That really isn't a bad thing because at a time, it was freaking fantastic. I kept seeing her as I read. Images of her ... her hair.... what we had.
If this is a true story, hope that it never ends. If fictional, then it should be true.
Incredibly beautiful. These are the kinds of poems I can read again and again.
I sigh, then read again.
Oh, and hey, how about a few applauds. |
