~***~***~
Bathed by moonlight and seduced into silence
I stare at the vestiges, the flailing edges
Of a once perfect make-believe
Where I could dally for hours
Lost to the world
Somewhere between the lines, amid the grays
The clear definition of my insanity
Became tangled up and lost
Drifting into harder edges
And gaping holes
So here I stand now, on the shores of defeat
Defiantly screaming into the roaring wind
Desperately fighting for one foothold
That will allow me to cling
To what I know
It’s not that I’m tired of the endless battle
But more than I no longer know
The rules and moves to make
That will free me from
This shrinking cage
Once, I read the stars, and sang with the ocean
Once I leapt boldly and flew above it all
But now, in this thick gloaming
What comfort I reached for
Is no longer there
In this darkness, in this endless moment of pause
That still small voice can lull me, even now
Can make me brave, if only for a spell
Brave enough to try
For one more breath

The last stanza speaks to me the most, for I am intimate with the small voice of courage. Ever so faint, but there none-the-less. It is hard when we know not how to proceed ... like being caged, as you put so very well. No amount of bravery can help us when answers are aimless and inaccessible. Decisions are not always apparent, especially when there are many things to consider. And when the comfort we once bathed in is taken from us, it is even that much harder. This was exceptional and perfectly topical. Emotional indeed! Thank you for sharing, my dear. Wonderful post!

A write that speaks of genuine honesty to the decisions we make that can have endings not sought by our original intentions but it happens. Being our worst enemy so much of the time then realizing in a moment of clarity a calmness takes over letting us know we'll be alright. Stunning write.
take care

Wow, defeat, desperation and despair. So sad but the muse takes us to places sometimes that when we write gives us the strength to take that one more breath...then more...then more. Follow it up dear Dawnie with the one where you climb out of that hole and rock the world.
Am always impressed where your talents take me even if it makes me wanna cry. 'tis what poetry is all about, eh?
Take care,
Luff,
