The Road to Recovery
My Road to recovery
Has been long and hard
Filled with emotion
And has left many a scare
My life has been one full of experience
And never for a moment dull
Good times and bad
I’ve always kept my plate full
Questionable choices and unwise decisions
Have left their toil
I thank God that the roots of my upbringing
Were planted deep and in good soil
I look back now with my life here
Most likely near half complete
I honestly can say it’s been a victory
Even though there have been times near defeat
I can’t help but reflect on all the things
Done and not done in almost disbelief
How I’m still standing here
Is a blessing and relief
Even though I experienced many things
On my journey up to this time
Much has been wasted and squandered
As I walked that fine line
My road to recovery
Can only be explained as a life and death
A portion of the person inside had to die
So the Man I am would be Left.
To live the life for which I was chosen
I had to experience a resurrection
Of my heart, my mind and my soul
There had to be a reconnection
There have been so many people
That have been effected by my chosen road
Some detrimental while others
Carried more than a fair load
I want you all to know
Whether your one of the good or the bad
I’m equally thankful for you both
Cause you can’t know true happiness without some sad
I had a dark cloud that seemed
To hang over and follow where ever I would go
I’m pleased to say I’ve stepped out
From under it before it took me too low
There are so many things I’d like to say
And so many I’d like to thank
But I’m just gonna tell you all
My appreciation level is impossible to rank
My road to recovery
Has been wrought the heartache and sorrow
But thanks be to God
That the sun will rise again Tomorrow
So don’t give up and no matter what
Never ever quit
Life is full of blessings
And it’s an amazing and wonderful trip

What a wonderful way of expressing your life journey.... A portion of the person inside had to die,so the man I am would be left.I think this is a summary of all you have written, all our experiences good or bad make us the person we are now, and certainly when writing if we did not experience both then we would have no depth from which to express ourselves. well written |

This is very good. Ilike the line ' you can't know true happiness without some sad. So very true, as the sad times make us appreciate the good ones even more. Good stuff. |
