Where is Woody Guthrie Now?

Contributed by zedwards on Tuesday, 23rd March 2010 @ 09:29:41 PM in AEST
Topic: oops

Where are you going, what are you doing?
Who are you knowing, why are you asking?
These are the questions deep in the night
That keep the sleep out of your blanket
Bleed out of your insides while the outside is pale
Put the lost directions inside your compass
Drive the distance in history book pages
Sink into the nothing while the weight of you floats on

The past is not meant to be lived
Riding on the open freight trains
Where hobos hide beneath the starry night
And tell tales of legends time has grown
Instead it is a star surrounded by darkness
A puzzle with a copious amount of pieces
Left to the beholder to put back together
Its purpose is served best in memory

Answers always seem to be in the places you’re not looking
If you go searching for them you’re bound not to find them
But the more you look the sooner you’ll see
That truth is the broom that sweeps the world clean
And the only way to truly discover it is to be it
So stop tossing wood into the stove
Fueling the darkness with more light
Don’t feed the fire… be it

I like this one but was left thinking 'Who on earth is Woody Guthrie?'
