When I was new to earth
my body soaked in youth
not much I thought of birth
for hidden was its truth.
I did not often cry
like others in my place
I knew no reason, why
have sadness on my face?
While gazing through my eyes
I viewed tall creatures 'round
their ways seemed strong and wise
while I lay near the ground.
They played their music too
as I would try to do
their speech was like a song
I longed to play along.
I tried with all my might
to sound their lovely voice
and they would take delight
in mimicking my choice.
While learning many things
of sound and sight and taste
I learned one smile brings
a like one to their face.
In helping new life grow
you grow yourself inside
my parents seemed to know
this truth that tries to hide.
And now a man, for me
a child there will be
what time I cannot tell
for now I'll wish him well.
