Justice, Love, and Luck

Contributed by DrcGaimer on Friday, 19th March 2010 @ 03:51:16 PM in AEST
Topic: fictional

Justice and Love met for an audience,
simply to compare,
whom between them was more impartial and fair.

-Love-
You promise equality and judgment predicated by way of fact.
Yet, how many innocents have you laid upon their backs?
From the burning of those accused of witchery to the lynching of negros,
you surly turned a blind eye.
Their pleas your ears did not recieve,
nor did your voice offer them hope.
I question as to why?

-Justice-
Truly tragedies and such a shame,
but it is not I who am to blame.
It was the dearth of love within man which educed these horricfic events,
may I append,
the likes of which we've not seen since.
For my ears did harken,
my voice also chimed,
and my judgment befell the guilty for their crimes.
Therefore, this lure i will not take.
Your absence was the culprit,
for these were the deeds of hate.

Dare you attempt to deem me responsible for such malice and scorn.
Shall we further examine your record,
others you have torn.
Those who suspended their vitality,
for love given was not returned.
All in your name - murders committed, children spirited away, and possessions burned.
And who, but I, furnished the repercussions.

-Love-
How very egotistical of you.
To believe one's self free from fault.
You're nothing more than a choice harlot,
for a valid sum you can be bought.
Your arrogant and prideful partisans care not for the truth.
They methodically cull their words, and conceal or fabricate proof.
As the footing of a tortoise,
your course is sluggish,
as well as sloven.

-Luck-
Overhearing their contention, Lady Luck spoke.

Why don't both of you shut up!
How drolling it is to come across the pair of you wrangling over such a matter,
as if either were eligible.
You've each decieved those who've sought you,
promising redemption and benevolence,
yet accoutering them with naught.
For justice has become a mere myth and love a foolish dream,
neither of you are what you seem.

And what of you, the two incensed, what do you offer!

Unlike yourselves, I promise nothing, I make no claims.
There is no guarantee or loyalty,
for this I am famed.
My allegiance is as random as the draw, spin, and roll in the games of chance which my adherents play.
Yet win, lose, or draw, within my bosom they will stay.
I plague the rich as well as the poor,
and am not charmed by class nor color of skin.
No matter who you are,
press me too long and you're bound to get singed.

Whether in betting or the progression of life,
an unknown factory within the equation,
a variable I shall remain.
Akin to the wild,
I will continue to be unbridled and untamed.
