I rise to tend the house another day
Not leaving my sanctum to face outside
Remaining in my room keeps me content
Without the torture of social affairs
Tiresome small talk at parties that drag on
Strangers that will glare, then whisper and judge
So I choose to see humans on the box
To mute them when I please or turn them off
No soul can cause me harm as I’m closed in
Embracing walls that cherish and protect
Outside space is not my chance of freedom
Keep me in my shrine so that I can tend
Lock all the doors and keep me hostage here!
Block out the din and paint the windows black!
I care not if I have no human touch
How I adore the house that captures me!

This poem really speaks to me, and it says exactly how i feel at times. Were i'm all alone and yet i'm very comfortable with it. Were no one is around and I don't care. |

I loved the contrast in this poem. How the character enjoyed the security of being inside, yet states that the house has captured him or her. Most of all I love the message of the poem, how we become comfortable with the prisons we make for ourselves. Great job! |
