Wishing upon a star

As I sit on this empty beach
Of some desolate forgotten shore,
For expressive words I reach
To say what's in my heart and more.
It's obvious to my discerning eye
That when people mope and sigh
Pining over some unrequited love
Or some perceived misfortune from above;
Out of the emptiness of their heart
They try wishing upon a shooting star
And their longing gaze shoots out far
So they may from their pain forever part.
But as I gaze across the blood-red sea
Shining dully under the silvered moon
The hopelessness of such an act I see
As no help will come of this anytime soon.

Hi,
Faith, my friend - with a touch of Hope.
Every shooting star has a name on it. Perhaps
you're not reaching up far enough?
I understand your anguish though. |

I am surprised by this. I was drawn here by the comments you made on another poem. Good sentiment and truth in your lines. |
