Traveling down the rugged paths of life,
Wearied by the constant struggle and fight,
I wandered toward a distant glowing light
Hoping to find a refuge from the constant strife.
Into a dark but not gloomy woods I wandered,
Ever seeking that quietly beckoning gleam
Always close but still so far till I pondered
If I would ever reach that alluring beam.
Still I drifted on through the concealing fog,
Floating on world-weary feet deeper into the bog.
Pushing determinedly onward with a will like steel
Hope quickly fading that the light I would ever feel.
Finally, faith all gone, I collapsed to my knees
Crying to the gods and bewailing my sorry state
Till, glancing up, a sight that my tears did sate
Made my pulse race and my exhausted heart freeze.
Before me an angel stood, hair blowing in the breeze
Dressed all in white beautiful wings downward flowing
While her feet ripples in the icy lake did tease
And even the sun was shamed from its meager glowing.
Just for a moment she stood, then was gone,
Like a dream disappearing at the break of dawn;
While the fog from her beauty had burned away
Brightening the path and showing me my way.
I received a gift greater than excalibur that day
For the fire in my heart which had nearly burned out
Had kindled again, strengthening me to return to the fray
Where I'll fight, win, and forever be eternally devout
To the woman who made me wake, my lovely lady of the lake.
