Dark Skies

Dark skies above opened up
And rain fell drop by drop
Lightning flashed across the sky
And thunder rumbled its reply
Icy drops chilled the skin
Rolling clouds dark with sin
Tears matched the pouring rain
As hearts broke from deepest shame
Sturdy Ark safe and secure
Cries fell deaf on wooden door
For those who heeded not the call
Waters rose to claim them all
The mighty boat did soon find rest
Nestled in a mountain crest
Sun broke free from darkened sky
And the rainbow smiled its reply

I enjoy the allegory from a rain storm to life's hardships with a little biblical illusion thrown in for flavor. A dark tang when mentioning the souls lost to disbelief but paired with a light ending for a pretty tranquil read. Very nice. |
