What It Means to Love

Contributed by myworld on Saturday, 13th March 2010 @ 07:01:50 PM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

Thank you for the time we spent together,
for the memories etched in my heart
Thank you for all the laughs through jokes we shared,
the tears through troubled times,
this feeling that's welled inside
Thank you for the care and affection,
the thoughtful words when I am down,
and thank you for the passion
Thank you for the tender kisses,
the gentle embrace,
the loving touches,
we once exchanged.
Thank you for the love that's once in both our hearts,
the dreams we once had cherished,
the promises we each have made.

Thank you for proving that love exists -
in many ways or so

Love can be mutual -
yes, that's the easiest kind of love -
that's when one love is shared, shielded and embraced;
Love can be one-way -
that's like driving on a circling path.
You know you have to follow the path
but the path leads to nowhere.
Yet knowing that, to still remain on the path;
to trust that it's the right way to go
Fervently hoping, truly believing
that someday the path will lead to somewhere

This, is the boldest kind of love-
unconditional.

That is to look at someone,
to have viewed all their faults and flaws,
yet still consider them perfect.
It is for the heart to be able to ache, to yearn,
even when the loved does not love back.
It is for the mind to wait through timeless age,
knowing that the loved has been long gone.

Lastly, it is to be able to set aside one's self
for the sake of the loved

It is not about hopelessness, even dying
It is to survive, to be anxious for tomorrow
to see their smile, to hear their laughter
To say 'just one more time' each time

It is to be able to let go -
for letting go is never
a simple sign of weakness,
it is instead of bravery
brave enough, to step aside, and
brave enough to be alone
To venture into what's unknown
to grasp that your leaving is best,
for the one that's being loved,
that love is sacrifice

And that is how I want to love
That is how I want to love, you

Thank you, for telling me what it had meant,
to love somebody with all my heart.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
