Perfect World

Contributed by wyrd_faerie on Saturday, 12th April 2003 @ 04:05:00 AM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

Photographic images lost inside melting minds
Talent wasted for everything they left behind
Fading away, wasting today
Because ‘we’re only young
We’ve got our whole lives ahead of us.’
What happens when tomorrow doesn’t come?

Political thunderstorm raging, sitting inside
Staring at a computer screen, suspended in time
Masked promises broken, mind in intensive care
It’s alright, when I wake up tomorrow will be there
Wear sunglasses to fend off reality’s glare

Sew on a plastic smile to stop growing old
Always be a good girl and do what you’re told
Listen to the system that you’ve forgotten how to fight
But that’s ok; you’ve got eternal youth and eternal life
You always do what’s right

Wearing a fashionable second skin, just to fit in
Paint fake nails to cover up your sin
Watch TV, 2D images of things that aren’t real
You’re sad inside, but ‘too busy’ to do anything to help them heal
Complain to the government, but you’ve forgotten how to feel

Writing a poem that means nothing, wasting my time
Trying to change the world with my words, I don’t have the right
But who cares? Feed me drugs to change my mind
Lock me away, shut off my brain
Tie me up; make me listen until I’m ‘real’ again
Stamp out my ideas, make me change
Take away all the thoughts I’ve gained
Stare into my vacant eyes and hear me whisper
‘It’s ok,
We’re all the same.’
