Dear Claudius

Contributed by Chamaron on Thursday, 11th March 2010 @ 08:32:56 PM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

A Monster manifest
Etched on my insides of stone - "He lies here"
While in my greasy brain he tumbles
If I stay quiet, nothing to fear

Disrupt all controllable
While dismantled alarm sings
Aren't you sorry for the things you've done?
What storm on shore your boat brings.

Funny how you've measured
The arms of your justice to suit
Swing my head around in confusion
Nullify any attempt to refute

Don't you see what is plain as zebra?
Can't you find black in the dark?
If you looked, if you tried
You would know truth's mark.

But why bother with truth
When it can be the way you'd like
Why bother with cooperation, king
When you can have my head on a spike?

I'll tell you, sir, I can admit
The madness in your method is smart
Better to drive to knees the straight-legged
Than draw dagger straight through the heart

To have them beg, plead
Contemplate own final destruction
What brilliance, sir, does lie
In such a plan of evil construction.

Wonderfully written. Being a huge Shakespeare fan, I was very intrigued with the title and author's note. This was such a clever (and mad) play and you've captured the emotion of that in your poem. *applauds* Well done, poet! Very well done.
