Did I miss the point?
Walking rather slowly, the echo of footsteps follow.
A rumble of thunder.
Perhaps not.
Life is many things, but what of it?
It dies.
A rumble of thunder, never to be seen again.
All the same. One day it must end. It dies.
A rumble of thunder.
Perhaps not.
I briskly walk my well-trodden path.
It is cold out. This I know.
There have been days like this.
The same path. All pass, all walk.
None stay.
A rumble of thunder.
Perhaps not.
What did the old man say?
I cannot remember.
He speaks, but never is heard.
They pay no attention, their footsteps lock him away.
He sits and waits.
I see.
A rumble of thunder.
Perhaps not.

You're right, life itself is fleeting. Your poem really makes the reader ponder this point etc. It also makes you wonder what you might be taking for granted. Good strong writing here. =) |
