I toss and toss until I rise from bed
I cannot sleep my heart is weak this night
My whitish hands persuade me now to write
A trial to rid the things inside my head
My slender pen indites with haste in red
My deathlike face displays a ghastly white
The alley echoes rabid cats that fight
A doleful yowl will surely come ahead
The candles doctor my nightly vision
The verse that I’ve written wishes I cried
The clock is ticking with such precision
It’s that time again to lie down and bide
