Look at us just sitting here in silence
No-one can find the perfect words
We seem to be flying in two different directions
Flying away just like the birds
We cannot cover up the cracks that have appeared
They're too big now, just like I feared
Don't pretend to not be you
Because that will never do
Be the father I once knew
But I can never forgive you
For what you said when I was young
Maybe now you feel guilty
Because to feel nothing would be wrong
Maybe life's battles have made you colder
I know the years have made us older
Don't pretend to not be you
Because that will never do
Be the father I once knew
Remember the fun and games
Memories in picture frames
Remember crying those tears of joy
We've come through the rain
We've fought off the pain
And still we are standing
But I will always be your son
And I know I'm not the only one
You know we will never see eye to eye
Until the day we meet in the sky
Maybe one day we will be fine
They say wounds heal over time
Don't pretend to not be you
Because that will never do
Be the father I once knew
So let's put our differences aside
Because to this we must abide
Please take a different view
And be the father I once knew
