MY FAVOURITE 45

Contributed by chrisdavid on Friday, 26th February 2010 @ 10:52:32 AM in AEST
Topic: Nostalgic

Maybe I was born too late
Because all this hi-tech stuff really gets to my head
I've always been old- fashioned, with a black and white TV
And a wireless by the bed

I cook the food over the stove
And light the fire when I get cold
I can't see me changing my life
I'll still be here when I'm grey and old

What about those iPods and the MP3s?
I never got used to those cassette tapes or the CDs
What about the internet and those mobile phones?
But you can't beat a vinyl record, that makes you smile when you come home

Forget the jazz and the rock'n'roll
I've got no time for pop or R'n'B
I don't think you can beat a sentimental ballad
That's the one for me
With all the trash on the television
And the papers I just don't read
I spend the evenings listening to
The only thing I really need

I begin the record turning
It crackles at the start
I couldn't ever face the day
If we were torn apart
It's been my life since I was young
It's all that I have known
Because you can't beat a vinyl record
That makes you glad you came home

Don't get me wrong
It ain't worth much
It's scratched and worn
And full of dust
It still plays pretty good
It's nearly as old as me
I'm still alive
And until I'm not
I'll keep playing
My favourite 45

Loved this! Thank God for individuals who don't follow the crowd! I still have my records but nothing to play them on and yes shockingly I have 78s too lol. A great poetry tribute to living your life the way you want to, and the homely familiarity that creates.....because you can't beat a vinyl record
