Burden of Sleep

Im growing tired of lying awake every night
There's nothing on my mind and yet it doesn't stop
It moulds over every second of my day
Retracing steps as I lay silently in the moons light
I hear the wind whisping through my half open door
Gently beckoning me to sleep and to dream
"now is your time to play, no sleep on this fine night"
The devil on my left shoulder shrieks out the call
Jolting from my bed I feel like I'm possessed
Footprints following Fingerprints as I brush down the hall
My mind is blank but filled with the will to seek and find
I pray the prize it seeks is found in the state of rest
The ground rises fast as I meet it with a crash
My feet have lost the will to carry me; me, my burden
The light seems to be sucked from these drowsy eyes
The moon grows darker; I fade as I thrash.
It seems like hours before the silence is broken
‘Gentle boy, you’ll only get further tangled-
don’t fight your dreams, this is what you’re here for’.
Then an alarm sounded screaming ‘the test has woken’.
