The life I was Given

Contributed by clovermama25 on Sunday, 21st February 2010 @ 10:39:17 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

On a warm summer day
I came to you,
You didn't see me leave,
But with my loss you grew.

You had four more children,
And loved them just as much,
As the time passed,
You forgot about my touch.

With both of our troubles,
Both of our mistakes and strife,
We became who we are,
In this world we call life.

I came to return,
At age twenty-two,
To find my biological mother,
And that would be you.

We have had fun reconnecting,
And being as close as two can be,
Please don't fret about my life,
You are still my mommy.

My life has been hard,
My life has been cold,
But you remain part of me,
Until I die of old.

Thank you for the life you gave,
Even though you were afar,
You, a wonderful mother,
Don't believe you are.

I am here to tell you a story,
About a little girl,
Who had a little bow,
And in her sway a twirl.

She grew to know a life,
She could not have had,
All her trials were wonderful,
Sorrow is not always bad.

You gave me a head for my shoulders,
And put the shine in my sun,
Would I regret this life you gave me?
My regrets will always be none.

As for you mother, Are strong,
Someone I wish I could be,
You took the strength to say goodbye,
And humbly set me free.

My life has come from things you taught,
In inconspicuous ways,
Your experience helped me become me,
To express, and love my days.

For without your love,
I would have had no life.
Whether it was filled with anger,
Hate, love or strife.

I bless you with a kindness,
A truth I never told,
May you live in love and happiness,
Until you are weak and old.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
